Your Thoughts?

This announcement was in the local paper recently (last name and location have been obscured), and the last line caught my attention.  The couple has lived and worked in the area for years, and to my knowledge, they certainly do not strike me as being camera shy.

While it's their celebration and they have every right to set restrictions, it seems odd to ask guests NOT to bring cameras.  I've never seen anything like it before.  Have you? What are your thoughts?

  1. I've never seen anything like that! in fact, I've never seen an 'ad" like that in a paper. I get the "no gifts," but the no cameras seems a bit weird - especially if they are not camera shy. Makes me wonder what's up with that???

  2. Recently heard of this with a young couple who got married and didn't want people to take pictures of the wedding. Have no clue why...

  3. That does strike me as odd for anniversary celebration, unless they were paying a professional photographer and preferred people to buy photos from the photographer. I recently went to a wedding where that was a stipulation of the professional photographer. No one else could take photos, and if anyone wanted pictures of the bridal couple, they had to purchase them from the photographer. In that case I believe it was nothing more than a greedy photographer. Obviously I have no idea if that was the reason for this couple choosing no cameras.

  4. I've seen the "no gifts" request often, but the no camera is a new one. Wonder why?

  5. I would guess that no cameras is because they did not want photos posted to social media sites.

  6. Recently my Granddaughter was sharing an album with me that her mom had given her. In it was a picture of Bill at 28 and she said, "Look Grandma, Grandpa was hot!" I happen to think he still is, just a much older version of that young man. When I look at him I see the younger man and he says the same about me. Maybe they just don't want their "reality" messed up by loving friends with cameras.

  7. At a recent family wedding I asked if we were allowed to put photos of the wedding on FaceBook and I got a definite 'no!' so cameras were allowed but we were not to go to social media.
Why would you advertise an event in the local paper if you did not the resulting photos, does seem strange but I think it must be the worry these days regarding social media.

  8. Perhaps one or both has failed a bit and needs oxygen or something else. Perhaps they just want to remember themselves as they were the day they were married. Hope someone can let you know why the request. Simple enough to honor.

  9. I've never seen it before and think it's weird, especially if it was in the local paper! You've posted it to the entire community right there ... oh well.

  10. No cameras seems a strange request as I'm sure that the invited guests would be family and friends. Perhaps they should be more clear and say "no Facebook" or whatever it is they are worried about. I'm one of those people who take my camera everywhere!

  11. I'm with Bridget the one two combination of the newspaper announcement seems odd to me Is there a celebrity guest who is afraid of the paparazzi. Very interesting but yes, odd to me.

  12. Hum ... I've usually lived in bigger towns or suburbs of decent size cities. I doubt you would ever see this type of announcement in a newspaper where I've lived. You can request no cameras but everybody with a fairly modern cell phone has a decent camera available. I'm guessing some people won't honor the request for no cameras. I'd be curious to find out why they didn't want cameras. Did you go and find out?

  13. I think in this age of FaceBook, Twitter and Instagram they are just limiting their guests to the ones who are actually there and not the whole (internet) world! I think it is a great idea!
